Full Room Refurbishment – Floor Structure, Insulation, Wall Preparation and Final Finish
This project involved a complete refurbishment of the room, starting with the removal of existing finishes and inspection of the underlying floor structure.
The existing floor was opened up to expose the timber joists and sub-floor construction. Damaged and uneven areas were inspected and repaired where required, with timber sections strengthened and levelled before rebuilding the floor. Existing insulation was removed or adjusted where necessary and new insulation was installed between the joists to improve thermal performance.
Once the structural floor preparation was complete, the floor was closed and prepared for the new finish. An insulating/reflective underlay layer was installed before the final laminate flooring was fitted, with the boards laid throughout the room and carefully finished around walls, doorways and fixed elements.
The walls were stripped back from the previous decorative finish to expose the original substrate. Loose material, old wallpaper residue and damaged areas were removed. The wall surfaces were then repaired, filled and prepared to create a consistent base for the final decorative finish.
The existing ceiling and decorative coving were retained where possible. Local repairs and preparation were carried out around the ceiling line and coving to produce a clean transition between the walls and ceiling.
Wall surfaces were finished throughout, with detailed preparation around corners, window reveals, electrical points and architectural features. The completed walls received the final decorative finish, while the ceiling and coving were finished in white.
The project also included detailed work around the window and radiator area, internal corners, projecting wall sections and doorway interfaces to ensure the room was finished consistently as one complete refurbishment rather than as separate trades.
The finished result included:
- floor structure inspection and local timber repair;
- floor levelling and preparation;
- insulation between timber joists;
- reflective/insulating floor underlay;
- laminate flooring installation;
- removal of existing wall finishes;
- wall repairs, filling and surface preparation;
- preparation around windows, corners and electrical points;
- ceiling and coving preparation;
- final wall and ceiling decoration;
- detailed finishing around doorways, skirting lines and room features.
The project demonstrates the full refurbishment workflow from exposed structural elements through preparation, insulation, flooring and final interior finishing.
